SNOWPOCALYPSE - The Aftermath
So my sister and I have been diligent in shoveling the walk (after paying a couple of guys who came by to do our sidewalk and stairs.) We have about 100 feet of sidewalk and stairs to do in front of the house so it was worth the $60 ($50 plus a $10 tip since I felt bad that they have to shovel all that snow) I paid them, esp. since they did it in like 20 mins. It would have taken me at least two hours and I would have been immobile today. But we shoveled the 30 foot driveway ON A HILL and today I dug the cars out as both of them were parked on the street. They now have nice little walls of snow around them. This did us no good since the street has not been plowed and there are just two icy wheel ruts where people have been driving over it. You hit the icy ruts and the car goes nowhere.
And now, a rant.
WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY has not the City even made a pass at the street either during the snow or after it has stopped?!?! WHY?!?! If they had scraped it off at least once and thrown down some salt, Mother Nature would have taken care of the rest as the plowed street not 50 feet down the end of the street has been scraped and dry since yesterday morning. Why go over an already plowed street TWICE and leave all the side streets. My entire neighborhood is snowbound. It's crap!!
I just called the City snow removal and the very nice man said that they can't scrape the roads once they are ice. The best they can do is salt them. ARGH!!!! I didn't yell at him as he was good natured and very polite and I know it's probably not his fault that the City's snow removal policy sucks ass. I could have sworn that 20 years ago, they had snow plows running constantly and pre-treated the roads so they wouldn't be such a colossal mess after a blizzard.
I have food. I have toilet paper. My house still has power. Dammit, I just want to go to the yarn store to pick up a couple of things and get out of the house for an hour or so. It shouldn't be this difficult over 48 hours after the snow has stopped.
Edit - 4:55 and the snowplows are here!!! WHOO HOO!! Now let's see if they did any good.
